The important thing to always remember here is to fall back on enabling the non-skippable ads given in the monetization section of individual videos because most of the times, it remains unchecked. if your videos have a high watch time, you can make a custom setup and place mid-roll ads on videos which have a duration longer than 8 minutes.

YouTube Reserved vs. Auction Ads

The reserved ads and auction ads are simply skippable and non-skippable ads. Auction ads bring no certainty of minimum fill commitments and are bought by the advertisers in real-time. On the contrary, reserved ads have a given fill quota, which is why it is priced at a higher cost than auction ads. Most advertisers would want the security of guaranteed impressions for their ads ad would rather choose reserved ad type to assure the least fill commitment. If your channel has more of reserved ads, it is a good thing and you must notice and increase CPM soon.

I have a YouTube channel focused on the female audience and the topics covered include makeup, grooming and lifestyle with the majority of audience belonging to the age group of 22-30 years. The channel’s total CPM is more than $4. But also, my friend who is responsible for the management of this channel gets flooded with products for brand reviews and ends up with free goodies worth 30k each month.

The YouTubers do not rely on the YouTube advertising solely and in fact, it is not even 20% of what they make out of external deals in the form of direct sponsorships, brand endorsements, and personal branding. But this is not for everyone and very challenging, especially reaching the first mark of 10k subscribers.
